HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team was defeated 86-73 by Centenary (N.J.) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown in the Reeves Center Wednesday night.
Haybert Louchie was strong in defeat for Bryn Athyn as he scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, 2-of-3, from behind the 3-point arc, in just 24 minutes of action. Tariq Moore also reached double figures with a 15-point performance that also included eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Dante Lanzetta and Okoye Taylor each had nine points.
Trailing 14-8 in the early stages of the first half, Anthony Burr hit a 3-pointer and Louchie followed suit two possessions later to draw the Lions level at the 13:27 mark. Centenary (10-6, 5-0 CSAC) answered right back with seven of the next eight points to claim a 21-15 advantage. Moore converted an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the deficit to three (21-18).
The Cyclones found another surge, this time it was 8-0, to take their first double-digit lead of the night, 29-18, with 7:50 to play in the half. Bryn Athyn would get as close as seven (42-35) and ended the half trailing 46-37.
Centenary scored on its first possession of the second half to push the lead back to double digits, 48-37. With the Lions down 10, the Cyclones used a 14-2 outburst in in 3-minute span to extend their lead to 66-44 with 14:27 remaining.
Using scoring from six different players, led by four points by Louchie, Bryn Athyn went on a late 17-3 surge to trim the gap to 82-73 on two Raymond Burrows IV free throws with 30 seconds left.
Tom Weiler was Centenary's top player, racking up 13 points, 16 rebounds, and four steals. Tyler White and Owen Roberts III both added 12 points for the Cyclones—who had 13 players score at least one point.
Bryn Athyn (1-16, 0-6 CSAC) hosts defending CSAC champion Rosemont on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Asplundh Field House at 3 p.m.
