Men's Basketball takes control in season opener

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team opened its 2023-24 season with a bang, defeating Rutgers-Camden convincingly on the road, 82-68.

Inside the Box Score
  • Jakir Hampton couldn't be taken off the floor, finishing with 24 points on unmatched efficiency (7-12 from the field, 4-6 from three, 6-10 from the foul line).
  • Will Little was a monster at the rim, totaling 15 points, and 5 rebounds.
  • Jalen Jackson led the attack with 13 points, 6 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists.
  • Jalen Parker had a double-double, ending the day with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
How it Happened
  • Rutgers got out to a strong start off some Bryn Athyn turnovers, going up 9-4 early in the first half, 13-6 midway through, and 32-20 late in the period.
  • Lions could not seem to break through early on, failing to get within less than seven in the opening frame.
  • Rutgers would go into halftime up 41-30.
  • Halftime adjustments were crucial for the Lions, as they went on a 21-4 run to open the second half.
  • They never looked back either, only continuing to build on that lead as the game progressed.
  • Bryn Athyn would go on to win without a doubt, 82-68.
Coach's Corner
  • "Gritty first win for our group. We lacked an attention to detail in the first half. We had a great response offensively and executed our game plan on both sides of the floor. Jalen Jackson was a warrior on both ends. I thought James Dyson, Noah Riley, and Aaron Jones gave minutes off the bench that really changed the pace for us. We need to clean up our rebounding and ball security, but pleased to start 1-0." - Head coach Sean Westerlund
Notes
  • Bryn Athyn shot 51.8% from the field and 43.5% from three.
Up Next
  • Lions head to Immaculata on Tuesday, November 14th at 7pm.
